The Gospel: Medicine for the Soul

September 15, 2017 By David Zook

Everything we do at Campbell Community flows from the way that the gospel has gripped our lives.

Say you wake up one morning with a painful ear ache. The doctor tells you that you have an ear infection and prescribes antibiotics. Your ache goes away after taking the medication for a few days because the medicine killed the infection.

In a very similar way the gospel is the medicine that will heal the afflictions of your soul.

It covers the shame.
It removes the blame.
It absorbs the pain.
It soothes the ache.
It comforts the grief.
It mends the broken.
It frees us from temptation.
It gives confidence to live rightly.
It’s anchored in God’s grace.
It’s potency comes from God’s love.
It’s promise gives hope.
It’s available to all with a zero copay.
It’s effective to those who trust Jesus.
It points to a time when heartache will be no more.

If one had a similar number of physical ailments, the doctor might prescribe 10-12 different medications to cure them … and you might have to go to four or five specialists. Not with the gospel. It’s potency and broad effect heals these afflictions and more.

Campbell’s staff, leadership, and their families have all experienced the powerful effect of the gospel mending our souls. It will have the same effect on you.
